Nobody said coming up with $250,000 to build a disability-friendly baseball field would be easy. But miracles never are.
The cause of building the Jeff Hanson Miracle Field is worthy, though, and that’s why a community fundraiser is being thrown September 11 at the Bielenberg Sports Center (4125 Radio Drive). All proceeds from the event go toward the remaining $35,000 needed to build the only field of its kind in the East Metro area. The field will be equipped with rubber turf that will be accesible to individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities.
The fundraiser, from 1-4 p.m., is free to the public, but donations are appreciated. Tim Mahoney, a locally famed musician and NBC’s “The Voice” contestant, will perform. Twins mascot TC will be there, as will members of the Woodbury High School football team. Massages, silent auctions, raffles, K-9 unit demos, sports contests, food, refreshments and several kid-friendly activities such as a petting zoo, balloon animals, open skating, jumpy moonwalks, pony rides and face painting and other fun activities are also available.
Fundraising for this Woodbury Rotary Club project—which is a combined effort with the Miracle League of Minnesota, the City of Woodbury and the Minnesota Utilities Contractors Association —started back in 2007. The target opening date was July 1, but there wasn’t enough money raised to cover the construction costs.
