Join Woodbury community members in a charity poker tournament to raise money for the Edwards family's medical bills. A no-limit Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament is the centerpiece of the fundraiser, with more than $1,700 in prizes to be awarded. Local salons and spas will be putting on an "express spa" featuring manicures, facials, chiropractic adjustments and more. A silent auction for local wines, gift cards and more will also take place. Space is limited in the poker play, so pre-registration is strongly encouraged. To register, and/or for more information, contact Bill Schmitz at william.schmitz@mac.com.

In addition, Quetopia BBQ Supply & Catering have donated a full spread of barbeque and sides. Each entry includes free food, beer and soda. Admission to the social only is a $30 suggested donation; entry to the poker tournament is a $90 suggested donation. Join your neighbors to help raise funds for one of Woodbury's best!

Paul's Story: In July 2013, our friend and neighbor Paul Edwards was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Paul endured chemotherapy for the next few months while doctors continued to monitor his bone marrow and white blood cell counts. Paul’s cancer journey has faced many challenges that no one saw coming, including an inner ear infection that has hindered his battle. As a family, the Edwards have continued to take this one day at a time, supporting one another in every way possible.

Finally, in November (4 months later), Paul came home. Doctors continue to monitor the infections and how effective the antibiotics are on them. He is now on 3 different IV antibiotics 24 hours a day. Paul began Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) to help treat his wounds and infections. The purpose is speed up the healing process. Doctors are focused on the wound/infection because Paul cannot proceed with any additional leukemia treatments until this clears up.

Paul and Michele, and their boys are an integral part of our community. We have come together to help support the Edwards family through meals, support, prayers and
now – fundraising! We are holding a poker tournament January 12, 2014 with a goal to raise at least $5,000 for the family.
