The Woodbury Lions Veterans Memorial will be the site for a special one-night community concert event to raise funds and awareness for their project in the week leading up to Flag Day. The Memorial recognizes the contributions of those citizens who have served in military duty to honor and protect this great nation and is the result of a joint collaboration between the Woodbury Lions Club, Woodbury American Legion Post 501, Woodbury VFW Post 9024, and the City of Woodbury.

Performing at this special concert event are two former Woodbury natives, Phil Thompson and Matthew Griswold, who have had both national and international accolades as touring musicians. Phil Thompson, an internationally acclaimed pop-pianist and vocalist, has kept strong ties to his hometown, and has helped to raise over $320,000 for Minnesota charities, including Second Harvest Heartland and Union Gospel Mission. Matthew Griswold, a folk-rock singer and songwriter, has gained a strong local following and has recently secured a contract with APM music. As a veteran, Griswold has also served as an advocate, guest speaker and advisor to a number of schools, VA medical centers and regional and national conventions where he provides insights on the issues of recovery and transition.

While this concert is free and open to the public, a free-will offering will be collected.  The Veterans Memorial Council will also offer veterans and their families the opportunity to purchase commemorative pavers at the event.
