Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz combined passion, creativity and baking skills to make bundt cakes for their friends and family. They were told they possessed a special gift for making delicious cakes—unlike anything tasted before—so together they founded Nothing Bundt Cakes in 1997. Using real butter, cream cheese and fresh eggs, Tripp and Shwetz’s company expanded nationwide. Each franchise upholds a home-like kitchen feel while keeping up with the modernized technology of today.
Nothing Bundt Cakes Woodbury owner Dawn Parker was working in the human resources field when she decided to start her own local franchise. Launching a dream of becoming a business owner, she left her job to fully dedicate herself to her new endeavor. “I had heard about Nothing Bundt Cakes from family members, so I tried them and thought they were excellent,” Parker says. “I thought it was such a great product that I wanted to investigate it further.” She loved the community in Woodbury and thought it would make an excellent place to launch her business.
When asked what she thinks makes Nothing Bundt Cakes stand out as a bakery option in Woodbury, Parker immediately attributes success to the unique product the company offers. The cakes are moist and rich, each boasting a signature cream cheese frosting. “I think what sets us apart is that fresh-baked home bakery feel,” she says. “We’re a very streamlined business; bundt cakes are what we focus on, and try to do it very well.”
Nothing Bundt Cakes consistently offers 10 cake flavors, including a rotation specialty flavor and a gluten-free option. Regular flavors include marble, pecan praline, carrot, white chocolate and cinnamon swirl. Chocolate chocolate chip, white chocolate raspberry, red velvet and lemon are the four top-selling flavors and are always available in the store without preorder. This month’s specialty flavor is strawberries and cream.
Customers can choose from more than 40 different options for any special occasion or as a way to treat a loved one. Birthday decorations range from the “Cele’bundt’ing You” to the “Happy ‘Bundt’ Day” cakes. Other cakes boast taglines such as “Nothing Bundt Hugs and Kisses” to “Real Men Don’t Eat Square Cakes.” Celebrating a new baby, a wedding or sending sympathy? Nothing Bundt Cakes offers choices for all occasions.
Parker reflects on her career change. “I came from corporate America, but I’ve always had a passion for wanting to make a difference,” she says. Nothing Bundt Cakes franchises strive to help people individually and also to help corporations and businesses through cakes with a message. “I really think there are opportunities to use cakes to make a difference and I think you can do that by encouragement or celebrating or rejoicing with different things that happen in people’s lives,” she says.
