More than a Nice Polish

Clean care. This is the focus behind new nail franchise studio Frenchie’s Modern Nail Care, which opened in May. Director of communications for the company’s franchise model and owner of the new Woodbury location, Ryan McEnaney—also a lifelong Woodbury resident—describes the concept behind Frenchie’s as a way to “revolutionize the nail care industry.” McEnaney’s family members Jennifer Bailey and Guy and Stephanie Coffee founded the company two years ago in Littleton, Colorado. Salon Savvy

Nikki Schmidt always knew that she wanted to be a hairstylist. After completing the cosmetology program at Century College, Schmidt was certified by age 19. In 2001, at just 24 years old, she opened Salon Elite in Woodbury. Now celebrating its 15th anniversary, Schmidt reflects fondly on her years in the business. “There were hurdles and lots of turnover, as it is in this business,” she says, “but looking back, it all had to happen to be where we are today.” Stylists Kathy Palodichuk and Jen Zepczyk have been with Schmidt from the beginning; the stylist team currently numbers 12. Look Good, Feel Better

The American Cancer Society started the Look Good, Feel Better program to cater to cancer survivors, particularly women, by introducing means of beauty enhancement during and after treatment. Maureen Hines, owner of Aesthetic Therapies in Woodbury and in her 16th year as a program facilitator, says, “It was created as a way to help people who are going through cancer treatments so they can continue about with their lives.” Losing hair and developing dry skin are side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, and the program strives to provide practical solutions.
