Boutique + Gallery = Chic
Cindy and Michelle Buchmann foster local artistry at Go Chic Boutique.

Opened in May in woodbury lakes, the mom-and- daughter operation Go Chic Boutique boasts a bounty of handmade items for the home: pillows, carved wooden pieces, mirrors, paintings, picture frames and jewelry, among other selections. Owners Cindy and Michelle Buchmann take pride in having a store that showcases the work of 40 local artists and only offers supplies made in the United States, including paints by CeCe Caldwell. A specialty of the store is upcycled furniture where clients can bring in their drab and out-of-date furniture and reinvigorate it with a fresh coat of paint or new stain.
The two make an ideal team; Cindy handles the creative elements of running the store, and Michelle focuses on the business side. More impressive than that, the two have managed to avoid any familial squabbles over business. “We can talk in the middle of the night [about the store],” Cindy jokes. “We can talk more openly because we’re related and have similar tastes.” The arts were always present at the Buchmanns’ home; while Michelle was growing up, Cindy kept her occupied with countless artistic endeavors.
In addition, Go Chic Boutique collaborates with Artists of Woodbury; Cindy and Michelle are currently working toward offering workshops and classes in a variety of mediums. They have also converted part of the boutique into an art gallery. “We’re hoping that having the boutique and the gallery allows us to reach out to the community and educate people about the arts,” Cindy says. —Joe Dixon
