Summer is the perfect time to make some interior decorating changes to brighten up your home. Roxanne Potter of Pomegranate Designs offers tips and tricks to help even the most inexperienced DIY-er make impactful and eye-catching design decisions.
- Changing the color of your space can be a quick and easy way to transform any room. This summer, be on the lookout for mushroom tones, like Sherwin Williams’ SW9173 Shiitake, and Benjamin Moore’s 1549 Balboa Mist and HC-81 Manchester Tan. Also popular this season are different shades of blue, such as Benjamin Moore’s HC-154 Hale Navy or Valspar’s Seattle Haze.
- Since natural, relaxed colors are in, look for terracotta and forest green tones for other spots. However, if neutral is not your style, try a pale pink.
- Start with a neutral wall in one of the mushroom colors, combined with white cabinets and—for a starker contrast—dark floors.
- If you’re itching for more color and pattern, Potter suggests painting the cabinets in the laundry room a bold blue or adding floral or tropical wallpaper to create an accent wall in a smaller space.
- To spice up the texture of your walls and go further than simply changing the paint color, try faux finishes, which can be done to look like concrete and watermarks.
- A few other on-trend ways to decorate this summer include using a herringbone pattern in both wood and tile flooring, and using large stones and a variety of colors to create bold backsplashes in kitchens.
