Each month, we feature one of the photos from our 2018 Focus on Woodbury photo contest. This month, we asked photographer Mackenzie Harding to tell us about “When Mom Says Yes,” which took second place in the People & Families category.
Where did you take the photo?
I took the photo right outside our house on the street. We live in a new development so the streets weren’t fully paved yet, making for some great standing puddles.
What kind of camera did you use?
I used a Canon 6D and a 50mm lens to capture this. I used a wide open aperture allowing the water droplets to be blurred.
What’s your favorite thing about the image?
The sun against the rain puddles created a perfect scene. In addition, I’m a mother of four children ... I’m not always one to quickly say yes, but I’ve found when I do, those are the moments when true, free childhood comes alive.
What’s your photography background?
I first picked up a camera 10 years ago and haven’t looked back. I launched my business four years ago and it has taken off. I love lifestyle, families, children, babies, and interior design commercial work. I am drawn to clean lines, color, emotions and reality — meaning not posed. I’m a firm believer in using photos to preserve memories and moments.
