After looking for alternative ways to raise funds, Jacki Frazer and others created the Math and Science Academy’s first Dragon Dinner in 2017. They’re now gearing up for this year’s event on April 14. The event, open to the entire community, includes dinner, a program and unique silent auction items. “We’re focused on experiential types of items,” Frazer says, adding that one of the current prizes for this year’s auction includes services from an executive chef from a prized restaurant in the Twin Cities.
While a lot of work, the funds account for 30 percent of the charter school’s needed fundraising efforts. “The payoff is huge,” Frazer says. “And it’s creating a sense of community, which is one of the bigger reasons why we do it.”
