Dr. Seuss at the North Pole

Woodbury Community Theatre presents “Seussical” this holiday season.
Back: Michael Hause, Anna Reimann, Julia Reimann, Brian Hause; front: Chandler Schmitz, Sydney Hommez, Keri Hommez, Henry North.

Although Woodbury Community Theatre’s December play will be less overtly holiday-themed than other options, there will be no lack of joy, magic and warm childhood memories. The family-friendly musical Seussical features different parts of Dr. Seuss books and characters in the play, including The Cat and the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, Miss Gertrude McFuzz, plus a glimmer of Christmas with How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Lenore Weir, who has been a director with the Woodbury Community Theatre for 40 years, says they decided to do a musical that would bring joy to kids and families in the community. The play will be brought to life by 51 talented actors and many dedicated volunteers.

According to Weir, Seussical will be nothing short of animated, colorful and fantastical. “I would encourage people to come for a fun and magical experience,” she says.

Seussical had its debut on Broadway in 2000. The colorful characters in the musical include the Cat in the Hat, Horton, the Grinch, the Mayor of Whoville and his wife, Cindy Lou Who, Gertrude McFuzz and Mayzie LaBird. The musical appeals to theater-goers of all ages.
