Artis of Woodbury Senior Living Presents

“Maintaining Dignity Through Maximizing Ability”

“Identify and Adapt”

WOODBURY, MN— January 1, 2020Artis Senior Living Memory Care Residence of Woodbury is sponsoring a presentation with tips and tools for caregivers in maximizing their loved one’s remaining abilities rather than focusing on deficits that are showing up due to a cognitive or physical decline from dementia.

“We can get caught up in the overwhelming daily challenges of caregiving, and only see what isn’t the same or what is being lost due to the illness,” Ruth Hjelmgren, Director of Community Relations said.  “By turning that paradigm on its head, you can begin to see that there are things that can be adapted for your loved one, by making some changes that will allow the person experiencing dementia to continue to do things that are a part of their routine.  There’s a huge win for everyone by maintaining dignity through maximizing ability.”  The program will provide examples of identifying opportunities to change our own thinking and communicating, as well as ways to adapt the environment to emphasize what the person can do for themselves successfully.

The presentation is sponsored by Artis and being given by Amy Matthews, a national speaker and dementia care consultant.  The presentation is on Wednesday, January 22nd from

5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and includes complimentary dinner at the Royal Golf Club, 11455 20th St. N. in Lake Elmo.  The public is invited to attend, seating is limited.  Please make your reservation by calling 1.877.385.0972 or emailing woodbury@artismgmt.com by January 17th, 2020.

Hjelmgren said the Artis Senior Living Memory Care Residence is putting on the finishing touches for an April opening.  “As Tammy Kucera, our Executive Director stated, [we have put together an amazing Leadership Team that has many years of experience all together in the senior living industry.  Each of these leaders has been carefully chosen in order to support the The Artis Way philosophy of care.  We have the opportunity to bring a new fresh energy to raise the bar of memory care, and that is so exciting.]”  Kucera went on to state, “we are also very invested in providing the best in education for families and caregivers as they share the road with their loved one on their dementia journey, before the community opens and will continue to bring greater awareness, resources and information for a long time to come.”
