If you were a fan of the 2001 film Legally Blonde, you are in luck. The Woodbury Community Theatre is bringing Legally Blonde: The Musical to the stage for a few nights of fun and music July 21-30 at the Loft Stage at East Ridge High School.

The show is similar to the film and follows a girl named Elle Woods, who tries to get into Harvard (and succeeds) after her boyfriend breaks up with her. “It’s about a young woman who chases her college boyfriend to Harvard. She gets into Harvard Law School and then of course meets all kinds of people,” director Lenore Weir says. “While she’s still fantasizing about this guy, another man steps into her life and becomes her friend and her support. Through the people she meets there, she becomes somebody else. She becomes a stronger, independent woman. So, it’s about her journey.”

Weir, who has been directing since 1985 and has directed more than 35 shows, says that the show is unique because of its upbeat nature. “It’s very poppy, which is fun because most musicals aren’t that style,” she says. “It’s just different. It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s fast.”
