Although Interior Impressions' Amy Leferink graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in marketing and finance, her heart found a home in interior design years before. She practiced home décor as a hobby, returned to school in 1993 after the birth of her second child, and pursued a full time career in 2006. “My love and passion has always been home design and decorating,” Leferink says.
The 20-year Woodbury resident and her then two employees began by working from her home, but soon determined they needed a space that accommodated more stock and customers. They subleased a space in Stillwater, and recently relocated to their new location in the Eagle Valley Marketplace. “We really wanted to be closer to home and closer to our client base,” Leferink says.
The team offers design advice and assistance to current homeowners as well as clients building or selling their home. The shop features Woodbury Blinds and sells window treatments. It also sells furniture, lighting and decorative items. “We hope to be the go-to spot for anybody on the eastern side of town who needs help with design services and things for their home,” Leferink says.
Woodbury resident Mary Bloomquist turned to Leferink in November, 2011 to assist in staging her home to sell after her husband passed away; Leferink also designed Bloomquist’s new home after she moved in 2012. Bloomquist appreciated Leferink’s sincerity and openness to accepting homeowner opinion. “It was a generous gift to me to have her come alongside me during a difficult time,” Bloomquist says. “I am so loving my home.”
Spruce up your home this spring! Leferink’s primary decorating tip is to keep large investments, such as sofas and flooring, neutral. Add in a pop of color with accessories and décor items.
