Holiday tips for our furry friends.

The holidays are a time for family, which includes our four-legged family members. Kate An Hunter, DVM, of Carver Lake Veterinary Center, shares some tips for ensuring a safe and enjoyable holiday for your pet.

Prepare for guests. If you have increased traffic in the home, make sure your animals are comfortable. And be watchful of doors!

Keep warm. “20 degrees is the cutoff,” Hunter says. Keep pets indoors when the temperature drops and if they must be outside, use booties.

Designate space. Have an area or crate your animal feels safe in, perhaps with treats or toys. This is a good solution for both crowded homes and travel.

Keep away. Be watchful of toxic items including tinsel, ornaments, chocolate, raisins and onions as well as anything sugar-free.
