Music Together Keeps the Beat with the Woodbury Community

Music Together contributes great things to the Woodbury community.
Instructor Paula Wilson leads a Music Together class at Kargel Park in Woodbury.

Music Together, a world-renowned, research-based early childhood program, is a longtime partner of Woodbury’s parks and recreation department and a favorite of the Woodbury community. The program is for children, from birth to kindergarten, and “the grownups that love them.”

Designed to help children reach basic music competency, the program helps children learn to sing in tune and keep a beat. Studies have shown that there’s a strong correlation between musical learning and other areas, such as language development and memory.

Director and teacher Clarice Auluck-Wilson also points to sociocultural benefits. “With music, we’ve become this performance culture… if you’re not on American Idol, people say don’t sing,” she says. “Beyond developmental aspects, it’s a community-building activity. We make music for the joy of it.”

Classes are offered on Monday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, and on Monday evenings at Woodbury-area parks. For more details or to join a free demonstration class, visit musictogetherclasses.org.
