New Names for Four City Parks

Citizens had the opportunity to submit suggestions in a park-naming program.

Last fall, the city of Woodbury reached out to residents for help in naming four Woodbury park lands. Some are existing parks whose use had changed over time, while others are undeveloped park lands that have yet to be named.

“We encouraged the community to submit their ideas through our online communications channels and made paper forms available at Central Park, Bielenberg Sports Center and City Hall,” says Mike Adams, assistant parks and recreation director for the city. “All submittals were forwarded to a parks naming committee made up of residents, city staff, Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens and City Council member Amy Scoggins This group made its final recommendations to the City Council, which approved the names in March.”

Following are the new names and locations of the four parks:

  • Andy’s Bark Park (formerly known as Dale Road Open Space), 11664 Dale Road
  • Prairie Ridge Park (formerly known as Dale Woods Park); current entrance is off Manning Avenue, south of Hudson Road
  • Liberty Park (formerly known as Stonemill Farms North Park), 11375 Eagleview Blvd.
  • Valley Creek Park (formerly known as Valley Creek Open Space), future park development on north side of Valley Creek Road between Settlers Ridge Parkway and Manning Avenue

In addition, Garbe Well Park will be renamed Garbe Park, and Stonemill Farms South Park will become Stonemill Farms Park.
