Fifteen years ago, Nena Tinoco traveled from Venezuela to the United States in search of a better life. Today, Nena’s Design creates dresses for all occasions and offers alteration services.
Customers Wendy Hoover-Carpentier and Madeline Carpentier contacted Tinoco for a one-of-a-kind prom dress. Madeline wanted a unique and different dress on a more affordable scale. “A lot of girls automatically think that they need to shop at the bridal stores that stock prom dresses,” Wendy says. “They don’t need to be limited to what they see on store shelves.”
Tinoco acknowledges the stark differences between Venezuela and Minnesota, namely seasonal changes. “I mean it’s nice to be in summer forever [in Venezuela],” she says. “But for clothing, it’s always the same.”
