There’s no confusion as to what the Woodbury Area Chamber of Commerce business education partnership committee does; it’s all in the name. The committee brings together businesses, education and the community to work collaboratively on forming well-equipped learners.
“This committee has an amazing group of volunteer members, and without their dedication, none of this would be possible,” says Lisa Palermo, committee chair.
Within the initiative are three subcommittees: youth partnership, professional development and scholarships. Youth partnership has formed training sessions within East Ridge High School, such as resume writing and mock interviews. Professional development provides bimonthly “lunch & learns” and works with Century College to offer a leadership breakfast training series. Scholarship volunteers review applications for the annual chamber scholarships.
This fall, the committee hopes to partner with additional local high schools with the youth partnership initiatives, plus continue with a new series of lunch & learns and an additional leadership series for the 2015–2016 school year.
