Teachers Angela Gorman and Lanette Sowle have many years of combined experience. The two local women met in early 2015 while teaching preschool and kindergarten and quickly found their passion for inspiring students was bigger than the classroom itself. It started with parent inquiries and requests to help their children outside of classroom hours; both Gorman and Sowle discovered the joy in individual tutoring. “The classrooms are so busy and packed,” Sowle says. “The teachers just don’t have time to build relationships and meet [the students] one-on-one.”
Thus, the two started their private tutoring business, Inquiring Minds Tutoring, last fall. Gorman and Sowle tutor in the subjects of math, English and reading readiness. For parents looking to enroll their children in tutoring, both teachers emphasize the need for a positive teacher-student connection and meeting the child where they are academically as necessary factors to achieve success. “It doesn’t have to just be tutoring for the struggling student,” Gorman says. “It’s enrichment; it’s an investment in the child’s future to get them where they need to be and make them feel comfortable.”
