On a beautiful warm day, Lorrie Burdeski headed out into her backyard with her two dogs, Fallon and Elmer, armed with her camera and a pocket full of puppy food. “Fallon is a husky/border collie mix, and Elmer is our retriever mix,” Burdeski says. “Elmer wasn’t feeling very photogenic that day—it was much too nice a day to sit still—but Fallon will do just about anything for some extra treats.”
A business analyst for Tennant Company, Burdeski is also a volunteer dog walker at the Animal Humane Society in Woodbury. “We adopted Fallon when she was about 6 months old from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services,” she says. “She’s a funny dog that is extremely animated and tends to do goofy things like stalk and pounce on her brother Elmer, run in crazy circles in the snow, and give hugs. She is a great subject for photos and videos.”
Burdeski, a four-year resident of Woodbury with her husband, Dan, enjoys taking photos of concerts, landscapes, flowers, sunsets and “my dogs, of course, but really anything that catches my eye that I think would make a good memory,” she says. “I learned about the photo contest from one of the city of Woodbury’s regular mailings and decided, what the heck? Why not give it a shot—Fallon has a great smile, maybe she’ll get chosen.”
