Serving over 350-400 families—and growing—as a main center for the local Muslim community, the Islamic Society of Woodbury-East Metro, an organization founded in 2009, has put the finishing touches on its new mosque in Afton, after moving from its smaller space in Woodbury. “Along with spiritual services, there are features to support social activities, youth activities and broader community engagement activities including non-religious educational, healthcare and personal well-being related events,” says Irfan Ali, board member in charge of communication. The society continues to give back, too: an on-site food shelf is available to anyone in need.
