From outdoor kitchens made for use year-round to play places constructed for adults and children alike, recent patio trends mean families can use their outdoor living spaces well into the fall.
Sarah Olsen, owner of Woodbury interior design firm Merriment, says hyper-localism is one popular trend. In an effort to cut down on emissions and support suppliers in the area, materials are sourced locally. “Stone materials are amazing locally in the Midwest and even in the Twin Cities market, with all the stone suppliers that are right in our very own state,” Olsen says.
Creative play spaces are trendy, too. Pool entertainment areas for parties and decks that incorporate sandboxes for kids engage the whole family. As the season wraps up, fire pits can bring families closer together to produce lasting memories.
And the fun in the kitchen can move to the patio, too, with outdoor kitchens made for use throughout any season—complete with grills, pizza ovens and more.
Privacy is important, Olsen adds. “One other trend I’m seeing a lot of are outdoor metal screens for privacy, as well as for a style statement and wind-blocking functions,” she says.
