Owners Ken Burkhardt and Andrew Mikkelson created Homestead Remodeling in November 2011 with a clear idea of what they wanted to do. “We started with the goal of being a residential remodeling contractor, specializing in window replacement, siding, roofing and bathroom remodels,” Mikkelson says. “In the last three years, we focused about half our business on insurance restoration, such as exterior and interior storm-related damage to homes.”
In April 2016, Homestead Remodeling began a program that gave back to the local community while also promoting the company. “It’s a community outreach program,” Burkhardt says. “We work with churches and other places like high schools and booster clubs.”
The program gives back 5 percent to churches, schools and booster clubs when families associated with them use their services. Some of the participants include the Woodbury High School football program, St. Ambrose of Woodbury Catholic Church, East Ridge High School and the East Ridge Athletic Association.
One of the ways Homestead Remodeling has been working with East Ridge High School is by holding raffles. This spring, they are giving away eight windows to a winning family. Joel Olson, activities director at East Ridge High School, says their relationship with the company has been a good one. “They’ve been great,” Olson says. “If they give us part of a donation, that’s great.”
