Setting a Festive Table

Tips from local holiday décor pro Roxanne Potter of Pomegranate Designs.

Pomegranate Designs offers professional expertise when it comes to home design and also expertise for decorating your home for the season, including your holiday table. Roxanne Potter, co-owner, describes two distinct emerging themes: urban rustic carries earthy fibers and rustic textures, and gilded gray emits timeless elegance and formal tone.

“It’s important to build from the bottom up,” Potter says about setting the table. Layer white linen and add plaid in as a table runner, pine boughs, red berries, pinecones and antlers for rustic style. For the gilded gray look, use silver lanterns or mercury glass votives on a silver or gray runner. Basic white dishes work with either look. Spruce up napkin rings with added pine sprigs or flocked pinecones.

Basic green trees for urban rustic, and white flocked trees for gilded gray, enhance adornment. Potter suggests creating a dessert or beverage bar on a sideboard or kitchen island to add flair. She adds that the most important thing to keep in mind is to continue the chosen theme throughout the home, not just on the table.
