A Summer Getaway at Carver Lake Park

Carver Lake Park has a lot of fun options for summer, including a beautiful beach.
Volleyball, swimming and kayaking are popular summer activities at Carver Lake Park’s beach.

Whether you’re looking forward to a day of swimming or want to grill some hamburgers to share with friends, Carver Lake Park’s beach is a fun destination this summer. “The beach is a huge draw to the area,” says Mike Adams, Woodbury assistant parks and recreation director.

The 40-acre lake, home to the Polar Plunge, also has a boardwalk and fishing pier. The beach has two sand volleyball courts that Woodbury resident Alyssa Wolfe says she loved using growing up. “It’s a good place to play volleyball, throw a Frisbee and cool off in the water,” Wolfe says.

Along with the beach, Adams says Carver Lake Park has a lot of other activities. “We have our off-trail cycling trail that is unique to our system,” Adams says, a 5.5 mile trail that is open from April to November.

Carver Lake Park is also home to a variety of programs; one of the most popular is Camp Carver, which started in 2006. The parks and recreation summer program gives children ages 6-12 the opportunity to engage with nature. “They’ll have anything from canoeing on the lake, to fishing programs to archery,” Adams says. “They try to mix it up so that it’s not the same camp every year.” Along with those activities, there’s also hiking, kayaking and a weekly campfire.

Carver Lake Park is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; beach hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check out more information on the city of Woodbury website.
