Historic downtown Stillwater is a destination for visitors from all over.

Historic downtown Stillwater is a destination for visitors from all over. Its convenient proximity to Woodbury gives local residents the perfect excuse for an easy day trip. To make your river town excursion even easier, we suggest you explore this sampling of Stillwater shops—perfect whether you’re treating yourself or finding something for everyone on your list (checkin’ it twice?).

Mara Mi
201 Main St. S.
This spacious and inviting shop specializes in artisan stationery and desktop accessories. The playful selection of gift items is perfect when shopping for stocking stuffers or gift exchanges. Help someone get organized with a beautiful day planner or select a simple but fun foil stamped luggage tag or tasseled keychain. Offerings of giftwrap and greeting cards make this shop a super simple one stop. But the onsite café will likely encourage shoppers to stay awhile.

Kathe Wohlfahrt
129 Main St.
This slice of Bavaria located only minutes from Woodbury is not to be missed at Christmastime. The shop’s handcrafted ornaments, nutcrackers, Christmas pyramids (candlelit décor pieces with blades that spin from the rising heat of the candles) and Schwebbogen (arched candle holders with decorative village scenes) are amazing to behold even if you don’t celebrate the holiday. These gifts represent a history of German holiday traditions through intricate craftsmanship that anyone can appreciate. We especially love the Ihr Rauchermannchen incense smokers. Popular since 1850, these adorable little wooden sculptures emit a fragrant aroma that brings as much joy to the nose as their fun shapes of German villagers and forest animals bring to the eye.

Scandinavian North
317 Main St.
With décor and fashion products from all over Scandinavia, this shop suits many Minnesotans quite well. Comfortable clogs, warm jackets, mittens and Fjallraven backpacks are perfect for practical Midwesterners. The Sagaform candy dishes and set of schnapps glasses and carafe caught our attention along with a selection of whimsical rotating carousel candleholders that would surely make great holiday gifts.

Midtown Antiques
301 Main St.
There is over 35,000 square feet of space with vintage items from 65 antique dealers to explore here. Home décor, Victorian era clothing, jewelry, artwork and Christmas memorabilia are among the many treasures to discover. Resurging interest in vintage items likely stems from a greater appreciation for recycling. During the holidays, we gravitate toward this shop’s variety of dinnerware and tabletop décor because we don’t mind washing dishes after the feast. Set a beautifully unique table or select a perfect heirloom piece for someone on your gift list who has an eye for classic style.

Northern Vineyards
223 Main St. North
Stop in for a tasting and leave with great gifts. Award winning local wines are served during daily tastings in comfortable surroundings right on Main Street. Learn about the history of each wine you sample and discover local flavors you’ll want to share with friends and family. All wines are made on site from grapes grown exclusively in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We can’t think of a better way to cap off your day than at a place where you can sip while you shop.
