When a friend dared Greg DeNunzio, a self-described “gym rat,” to try indoor cycling, he laughed, thinking it would be a waste of a workout. DeNunzio reluctantly accepted the dare to appease his friend, but by the end of the spin class he was hooked. Nine months later in January 2013, DeNunzio opened Woodbury’s first indoor cycling gym, Torque Studio Cycle. Why? “One word: energy. It’s a fun, productive workout with proven benefits,” DeNunzio says. The idea behind the studio is simple: to create an energizing exercise experience for all fitness levels. Regardless of the type of class, Torque Studio Cycle’s instructors combine music, lighting and coaching to breathe life into this calorie- burning, low-impact, high-cardio workout.“The biggest difference is our environment; it’s more intimate,” says co/owner and instructor Lesley Iverson. “You will get more one-on-one attention here, not a lost-in-the-mix type feel.”Torque Studio Cycle is planning to add a cross fit component to its gym by late fall. DeNunzio says they will continue to offer purely spin classes, but TorqueFit will also combine Olympic lifting with cycling training. For class schedules and pricing, visit the website.
