Lace up your sneakers: The 32nd annual Woodbury Country Mile runs into town August 25. The much-loved event features a half-marathon option, a 5K walk/run and various races for kids. “It’s wonderfully suited for experienced runners, but also a great opportunity for people who want to take on their first half-marathon or walk the 5K,” says Mark Streed, event chairman. Streed might be the chairman, but you can take his word for it: He’s a runner, too, and notes the natural beauty of the course, which circles several lakes on off-road trails. “The event is well organized; you don’t have to worry about anything except just running the race” he says. “It’s a top-notch course.” Streed says the race’s longevity is due to its great reputation; it brings in runners from the Woodbury area and beyond. The Country Mile is organized by the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce, and this year organizers welcome Sam’s Club as a new corporate sponsor. Sam’s Club hosts the start and finish of the race at the Woodbury store. —Jennifer Phelps7 a.m. race kickoff at Sam’s Club, 9000 Hudson Road; woodburycountrymile.com
