On February 3, Woodbury neighbors have a unique opportunity to hear a variety of local student music ensembles, as Woodbury High School hosts more than 1,000 east metro teens for the Suburban East Conference Music Festival. The festival includes performances by conference-school bands, choirs and orchestras (including both of Woodbury’s public high schools), and culminates in a grand finale concert in the evening, which is open to the public. During the day, band, choir and orchestra students perform for clinicians and work with them to refine their sound. The finale concert includes three select groups chosen by the schools’ directors and conducted by the festival’s guest clinicians.

The event is such a large and logistically complex event, in fact, that Woodbury High School students have the day off—the day has been approved as a no-school day, as staff and music students welcome visiting students for the festival.

The festival has been hosted by a rotating schedule of conference schools every year since 2001.
