Improving the health of the community is the goal of Woodbury Thrives, an initiative promoting physical, spiritual, financial and emotional well-being. The initiative’s second wellness challenge begins at a free event at HealthEast Sports Center on May 19, which will include a “Walk with the Mayor,” family-friendly activities and a special health and wellness fair featuring resources available in Woodbury.

“We encourage all residents to take the wellness challenge by enjoying our city’s parks and trails, shopping at the farmers’ market, connecting with neighbors and friends, trying new activities and exploring our city’s wellness resources,” says Simi Patnaik, Woodbury Thrives project manager. “Participants can complete activities, earn points and be eligible for prizes. Everyone who completes the challenge will receive a free T-shirt.”

The wellness challenge takes place between May and October. One new component will be a speaker series, featuring top local and regional experts sharing tips on how to enhance personal wellness. Participants can earn credit for the challenge by attending the speaker series.

Also planned is the Wellness Challenge Ride or Stride on August 18 at Colby Lake Park—a 10-mile bike ride on Woodbury’s trails and a family-friendly 5K or 1-mile fun run/walk around Colby Lake.
