Woodbury Weekday to Weekend Style

A busy young Woodbury couple goes from weekday to weekend style with on-trend attire from local shops.

Newlyweds Megan and Blaine Beck juggle full-time careers with Blaine’s thriving DJ entertainment business on the weekends. The 2008 graduates of Woodbury High School, who were married August 1, have known each other since Lake Junior High days; their romance started after Megan asked Blaine to the Sadie Hawkins dance in 10th grade. They are now happily settled in Woodbury, their hometown. “Having worked in Woodbury for so long drew us in, and we have quite a few friends who are moving back,” Blaine says. “There’s always plenty to do here, yet we’re still close enough to places like St. Paul, Stillwater and Hudson.” Megan adds, “I love that I can go anywhere I need to go, all in Woodbury, plus [there are] paths and parks for our dog, Gus. Our parents are here too, and we’re both really close to our families.”

Meet Blaine

College: University of St. Thomas (business administration degree with a concentration in marketing management)

Career: “I started working for the city of Woodbury in high school, setting up tables and chairs and doing sound for Central Park weddings. The summer after high school graduation, I moved into the management role for Central Park and Lookout Ridge, working fulltime through college and running my DJ business. It was an awesome experience and paid my way through school. I also had a stint as director of catering and events at the Wildwood Lodge Hotel. In October 2012, I started working for Unum where I’m an account manager, handling employee benefits for large groups; North Dakota is my territory.”

Blaine Dishes on Megan

What do you admire most about Megan? “Megan has the brains that I don’t have. I have the grandiose ideas and am more of a talker. She’s more analytical, organized and makes it all happen at the end of the day. She’s super kind and thoughtful; that’s always impressed me.”

When did you know that Megan was the one? “We weren’t really in a hurry; we just hung out for a long time, and got along. The moment I knew for sure? It was when Megan put together a piece of IKEA furniture.”

When did you know Blaine was the one? “It was a lot of little moments that built on each other. Things gradually got more serious.”

Celebrate! Entertainment

In addition to his fulltime job at Unum, Blaine owns Celebrate! Entertainment (celebratedjentertainment.com), the DJ business he started in 2007 while he was a senior at Woodbury High School. Megan is also involved in the business, assisting at events and managing the photo booth, website and Facebook postings.

And who handled the DJ duties for Blaine and Megan’s own wedding last month? Blaine, of course. “We’ve done a lot of weddings for friends and family, so I had practice as a wedding guest/DJ,” Blaine says. “A friend made the announcements, but since I have a pretty good idea of what people want to dance to, I had a hand at getting the music together for our big day.”
