Choosing Your Child’s First School

Local preschools and more will be featured at the January 9 Woodbury Preschool Fair & Expo.

When Lindsey Thompson relocated to Woodbury a few years ago, she was overwhelmed with her choices for preschool for her children. “This was an important decision, but I didn’t have time to visit all of the many wonderful options in our community,” says Thompson, a member of the MOMS Club– Woodbury South. “I wanted it to be like a college fair, where I could gather information about the programs, all in one place.”

Turns out other families shared Thompson’s views. Two years ago, the MOMS Club sponsored the first Woodbury Preschool Fair & Expo, which was a huge success. Thompson, one of the committee members who worked on the event, says, “This event is a one-stop shop for families with kids ages 6 and under; last year nearly 700 visitors browsed booths, watched educational programming on the demonstration stage and enjoyed fun activities for kids of all ages.”

The third annual Woodbury Preschool Fair & Expo, a free event, will feature more than 20 local preschools, along with more than 60 child-focused vendors, including birthday party options in the community. It’s a win-win not only for those searching for an education option for their children, but also for the preschools. “When we reached out to the local preschools with this idea, they were excited,” Thompson says. “Oftentimes people end up choosing a preschool only because of word of mouth. The fair and expo offer a forum for the preschools to advertise and provide information to help families with their decision.”
