A beautiful fall day and a cute corgi are the perfect combination for a great photo. “This photo was taken in my front yard, one of Tonka’s favorite places to hang out,” says Emma Schultze. “I had taken hundreds of photos of her, but this picture was the best by far. She was such a photogenic pup.”
Schultze, a cosmetology school student, developed an interest in photography throughout her high school years. “I began getting more serious with this hobby once my parents got me my beautiful camera for my 17th birthday,” she says.
“My family and I were proud and very emotional when we found out that my picture of Tonka was a finalist in the photo contest,” Schultze says. “We had just put Tonka down a few months before. She was a very loyal and sweet companion. Tonka loved to spend time close to us, take lots of naps and eat any scraps she could find on the kitchen floor.
“And there’s one more fun fact about Tonka: We actually bought her at a Woodbury Lions Club Garage Sale!” she says. “We paid for her with all ones and quarters. That’s a fun memory as well.”
