Focus on Woodbury: Sprinkler Fun Run

A mother captures her son’s spontaneous joy.

Mandi Folks is a busy stay-at-home mom who has a good eye for photography. Over the past few years, her photos have won recognition in Woodbury Magazine’s Focus on Woodbury Photo Contest, including this one that was taken in her neighbor’s yard.

“Our neighbor tragically passed away a few years ago,” Folks says. “His wife planted a daisy garden in his memory (shown on the left side of the image). We were visiting the memorial garden when the sprinklers went off. My son Macallan, who was 3 years old at the time, decided to run through the sprinklers in his clothes. I happened to have my camera ready to capture the moment.”

The photo features a reflection of the sunlight on the grass, as well as the big spray of water from the sprinkler head. But it’s the smile on Macallan’s face that says it all: a sprinkler fun run is free entertainment for one happy boy.

This photo from Woodbury Magazine’s 2016 Focus on Woodbury Photo Contest was taken with a Nikon D500 camera, and a 35 mm f/1.8 lens.
