Each month, we feature one of the photos from our 2019 Focus on Woodbury photo contest. This month, we asked photographer Lori Pearson to tell us about “Recovering Warbler,” which took second place in our Wildlife & Nature category.
When and where did you take the photo?
I took this shot in our backyard last May.
What kind of camera did you use?
I shot this with a Nikon D7200.
What’s your favorite thing about the image, or what struck you about the scene and inspired you to take it?
On this cool morning, a little warbler flew into the window and fell stunned to the ground. My husband, Tim, is amazing with animals. He went out and got it, swaddled it, and set it in a small glass. After about 15 minutes, the bird came back around. We brought it out to the woods in back to set it free, but it was in no hurry to say goodbye to Tim. The bird clung to his shirt for a while, hopped up on his shoulders to take a good look around, and after a long while, gave a flick of its tail and flew away.
What’s your favorite thing about taking photos in or around Woodbury?
Woodbury’s diversity offers incredible opportunities for photographers. Photography is my jam and it allows me to really see our community more closely. Woodbury has a terrific diversity of families [and] landscapes, and our parks are home to all kinds of creatures and plants begging to be photographed.
Throughout the year, we’ll feature winners and finalists from our 2019 photo contest. In August, you can submit your own snaps for the 2020 contest. Stay tuned for more info.
