How to Keep Your Hair, Skin and Body Healthy During Winter

A woman drinks water to keep her hair, skin and body healthy during winter.

Welcome to winter: We’re moving into a much drier time of year. This weather wreaks havoc on our bodies (especially our skin and hair) in sometimes unexpected ways. To get us ready for winter, here are tips from some Woodbury experts.

Hair
For winter, the trend is all about enhancing your natural texture. Kevin.Murphy is my go-to product line and has great solutions for every hair type. If you have wavy hair, use a cream-based texture spray like Hair.Resort.Spray to amp up your natural wave and curl. If you have fine hair, have no fear; use a texture spray or dry shampoo at the roots for added volume and thickness like Fresh.Hair. I recommend everyone, no matter your hair type, finish with Bedroom.Hair to add a little bit of definition and give you that “lived in” look. Overall, the modern shag is back for any length; bangs and layers are back in. The long, straight hair of the late 2000s is finally done and I love it.

Skin
When transitioning from fall to winter, hydration is the big key for your skin. I offer Hydrafacial and Dermalinfusion facials, which are really popular this time of year, because our skin tends to be much drier. No matter what season it is, drink your water! Water plays a big part in flushing out all those toxins from your body and your face.

Body
If you are like most people, you took a break from the gym this summer to spend as much time in the sunshine as possible before the endless, inevitable winter. That means you also took a break from your normal workout routine. With fall approaching and everyone heading back to school, it’s easy to let your workouts slip. Pretty soon it’s the holidays and before you know it, it’s January and you aren’t any closer to reaching your goals. So what can you do? Make a plan:

  • What is your goal? Set it.
  • When are you going to work out? Time, days, etc. Schedule it.
  • What are you going to do when you get there? Program it.
  • What are you going to eat? Prep it.

And always, always, always—drink your water. If you are struggling with any of these things, ask for help. —Jessica Merth, Personal Trainer – Anytime Fitness (@anytimefitnesswoodburydrive)
