April 2014

In the April issue of Woodbury Magazine, we take a look at some of our favorite healthy and flavorful pasta dishes in Woodbury restaurants, meet a few town natives who are now playing Division I baseball and find out how master gardeners keep our city looking beautiful. Grab a copy today!

How did Anthony Velte capture this cool view of Woodbury? “I enjoy building and flying remote-controlled aircraft, so I stopped at the Lake Road and Manning Avenue water tower to fly a quadcopter while shooting video and taking aerial photographs,” Velte says.

Spring is upon us, and that means many of us have caught the health bug. Whether your vice is cycling, swimming or extreme ironing, you need to fuel your body for success.

When organizers launched the Woodbury Community Expo in 2010, they weren’t quite sure what to expect.

Woodbury has earned a reputation for being an outstanding community to call home. In fact, national news organizations such as CNN and Money Magazine include Woodbury at the top of their annual rankings of ideal places to reside within the United States.

Cathy Nickelson and Johannes (Yo) Louwers don’t use paint, brushes and canvas. But they are artists who create beautiful—albeit impermanent—works of art.

Springtime has us daydreaming about baseball. The smell of freshly cut grass, the peaceful symmetry of the diamond, the satisfying thwack of the bat—there’s something particularly beautiful about America’s favorite pastime.

Before the tick of the iPhone or the drum of the keyboard, a different sound could be heard. Rather, it wasn’t a sound at all. It was a voice—an inner voice. Yoga studios and fitness centers across Woodbury are raising that voice loud and clear through a variety of class offerings.

‘Tis the season for pomp and circumstance. During May and June—high school graduation time—seniors and their families get the chance to celebrate accomplishments and enjoy bittersweet endings and exciting beginnings.

Give the gift of beauty, relaxation or home to all the special women on your list. Whether it’s your BFF-turned-matron-of-honor or mom-turned-BFF, we have the gifts that will make them sparkle with bliss.

Now in its 18th year, the Gala and Auction (set for April 5) is New Life Academy’s largest fundraising event.

Honesty. Integrity. Sportsmanship. Respect. Confidence. Responsibility. Perseverance. Courtesy. Judgment.

Inspired by TOMS Shoes and its buy one/give one initiative, local resident Amy Schwartz  set out to give a gift of a different sort— a doll. Schwartz’s then five-year-old son wanted a comfort item to sleep with. She scoured local shops in search of a doll with a religious theme.

At first glance, it might appear that Mark Crea, executive director and CEO of Feed My Starving Children, and Minnesota Timberwolves president Chris Wright have nothing in common.

For the 10th year running, Woodbury is supporting the Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in fashionable flair. The Open Your Heart Gala features a cash bar, dinner, and silent and live auctions led by master emcee Eric Rislove.

Same name, different meaning. Despite its similar moniker, the Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride focuses on community and camaraderie, rather than competition.
