The holiday season can be a joyous time filled with family and friends, but it can also be a time of increased stress for many. Romy Kees, manager of CorePower Yoga and Spa in Woodbury, says that “keeping your Zen is knowing that inside each of us lives a place of serenity and calm, and that you are able to access that place within you even through the most challenging and stressful of times.”
With the busyness of the holidays already here, Kees shares these five tips to help you keep your cool this year.
Breathe. Breathing will allow you to calm your mind and also ground your nervous system. “It’s a simple tool that we all have access to.”
Self-care. Something we often forget during the holidays but that it is all too essential. “Only if you are happy, healthy and in a good place can you share that care and love with others.”
Gratitude. Being grateful for your blessings can help you to refocus on the reason for the season and not get lost in unnecessary stress.
Presence. No, not presents. “Embrace the time you have to spend with your family and friends.” Take time to just be still—acknowledge and appreciate your experiences.
Practice. “Yes, take a CorePower yoga class,” says Kees, where instructors continuously stress mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing. But she also emphasizes the importance of practicing this very list as a daily reminder for staying happy and healthy, inside and out.
