Routines are so helpful when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. We have three core activities in our healthy lifestyle routine: meal planning, meal prepping, and scheduling workouts in weekly time chunks.
But there’s one other ingredient that makes this routine magic: consistency. We admit, living a healthy lifestyle takes time and commitment. But consistent doesn’t mean “always.” We like to live by the 80/20 rule: Find a healthy lifestyle routine that works for you, and stay consistent with it 80 percent of the time. Why? Because nobody’s perfect.
It’s important to maintain your routine the majority of the time, and equally important to give yourself grace when you fall out of routine here and there, because life gets crazy. We meal plan and prep, and schedule the times and dates we are going to work out for the upcoming week on the majority of weekends, so it’s easier to stay consistent during the week.
For us this usually looks like:
- Planning our meals on Friday
- Grocery shopping on Saturday
- Meal prepping on Sunday
- Looking through our planner on Sunday night to schedule workouts
Everyone’s healthy lifestyle routine will look a little different, but trying this for a few weekends can be a good start to creating your own routine. It all comes down to keeping your body moving and fueling it with nutrient-dense foods the majority of the time.
You can do this!
