Recent Stillwater Area High School graduate Alexander Pavlicin of Woodbury got an opportunity of a lifetime last March. He participated in the United States Senate Youth Program for a week of education and activities about the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. “It’s an opportunity to learn more about American government and engage in active intellectual thought with a diverse group of forward-thinking people,” Pavlicin says.
While he was there, Pavlicin listened to speakers and met quite a few influential people, including President Donald Trump and Minnesota senator Al Franken. “I felt an incredible presence when I met the chief justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, in the official courtroom, where no electronics or cameras are allowed,” Pavlicin says.
While in Washington D.C., Pavlicin also gave the introduction speech for Nancy Lindborg, president of the United States Institute of Peace.
Pavlicin, an active citizen since childhood, plans to major in engineering and international relations at the University of Rochester in New York.
