Local Robotics Team Qualifies for World Competition

After winning the Lake Superior Regional FIRST Robotics Competition, the 3M Fighting Calculators high school robotics team, along with their allied teams from New London and Frazee, qualified for the World Competition in April. Fighting Calculators team members hail from Woodbury’s Math and Science Academy.

This year’s robot, Jump Shot, has been destroying the competition.

“Participating on a robotics team provides our students with some amazing opportunities,” says Merrily Karel, parent volunteer. “Students learn skills that range from welding, building, designing [and] programming to public speaking, developing business relationships, team building and community service.”

The Fighting Calculators made it to the quarter finals in seven divisions at the World competition.
