Readers, we have the pleasure of welcoming a few new prominent community members to the Woodbury Magazine editorial advisory board. These outstanding citizens share a little bit about themselves and their favorite spots around Woodbury. We’re also excited to welcome Pepe Barton, communications director for South Washington County Schools, and welcome back two members, Michelle Okada and Stacey Morgan.
Sarah Sorenson-Wagner
Sarah Sorenson-Wagner began with District 833 two decades ago as a teacher; now, she’s principal of Woodbury High School. With three daughters, ages 10, 14 and 16, they’re busy with swimming, basketball, piano lessons and marching band. “Much of my time is spent either carpooling or attending the high school events,” she says. Scrapbooking, quilting and attending University of Minnesota Gopher football games are among her favorite hobbies.
As for her favorite spots around town, she says, “We enjoy shopping at Woodbury Lakes [and] movies at the Alamo [Drafthouse Cinema].”
Tanner Ignaszweski
A 12th grader at Woodbury High School, Tanner enjoys hockey (both playing and reffing) and drone photography and is currently working toward receiving his private pilot's license.
“My favorite spot in Woodbury would be [HealthEast Sports Center],” Tanner says. “I used to play hockey … and currently ref hockey there. I really like going to [Carver Lake Park] to ride the bike trails with my sister.”
Mike Lewis
Professional boxing coach and 3P Boxing 24/7 owner Mike Lewis has lived in Woodbury for 15 years with his wife and their three children. Competing in master boxing competitions, attending local sporting events and traveling are just a few of his favorite hobbies.
“My favorite spots in Woodbury are Yang’s Chinese [Restaurant] and Duc’s [Restaurant]. Both restaurants have great cuisine,” Lewis says.
Laurie Mordorski
Cottage Grove resident and Woodbury Lakes marketing representative Laurie Mordorski loves to enjoy the community and spend time with her husband, Paul; two kids, Owen and Hattie; and their dog, Spurgeon. “Can you tell we are a hockey family?” she says.
Her favorite spot in Woodbury is, of course, Woodbury Lakes. “There’s nothing like enjoying the fire pit on Main Street at Woodbury Lakes just as the sun goes down or taking in the gorgeous landscaping while listening to live music,” Mordorski says.
Margaret Wachholz
Hailing from southeast Ireland, Margaret Wachholz has lived in Woodbury since 1991 and serves on the board of directors for the Woodbury Heritage Society and the Miller Barn Committee. She’s a director on the board of the Woodbury Community Foundation and is the campus marketing director for Woodbury Senior Living.
Central Park has been a favorite, noting the popularity of the early childhood family education classes, library, park and café. “The city of Woodbury is so well run with parks and playgrounds dotted all over,” Wachholz says.
