Lori Sager is all over the Woodbury music scene. She is a director for the Woodbury Community Theatre, 2013-14 music and choir director at Woodbury Middle School, director of the St. Ambrose of Woodbury Catholic Church teen choir, and private voice and piano teacher to local youth. Despite her busy schedule, Sager revels in helping every child develop musical abilities. “It’s fun because it’s what I love to do,” Sager says.
Luther College student Kajsa Jones, a student of Sager’s, credits her music teacher with helping her enjoy the process of creating music regardless of setbacks. “She’s really helped me find the joy and beauty in making music, no matter what,” Jones says. “I am so grateful to her for that.”
Another Luther College student, Julia Reimann, has taken voice lessons from Sager since her junior year of high school. An aspiring music major, Reimann credits Sager with preparing her for the challenges of auditions and performances. “She had me singing art songs, arias, 20th century music and musical theater songs in my two years prior to college,” Reimann says. “These all set me up with a great base for college in which most of these are standard genres.”
Sager settled in Woodbury 14 years ago after teaching in New York and Florida, and she’s stayed here for a reason: Sager loves teaching Woodbury kids and teens. “I feel like a music mom,” Sager says. “I run around proud of all the kids. I try to pull the best out of every person and help them shine.”
Many people don’t know that Sager was Miss Florida State University. As Miss FSU, she got to travel around to various southern states, performing for servicemen and servicewomen as part of the United Service Organizations (USO) Show.
