Refreshing Fall Beers

Local seasonal brews to quench your thirst.
Five choices from Top Ten Wine and Spirits, MGM Wine & Spirits and The Four Firkins.

We tapped three local beer connoisseurs for their selections for fall beers. Bill Abrahamson of Top Ten Wine and Spirits, Matt Rivard of MGM Wine & Spirits and Bryan Buser of The Four Firkins (which recently opened in Oakdale) divulge their favorites, providing more than enough options to satisfy any beer enthusiast.

1. Lift Bridge Hop Dish IPA The piney and citrus nose of this beer provides a sublime balance of juicy hops and lingering bitterness. MGM store manager Matt Rivard recommends cooking up some spicy Mexican food to enjoy with this beverage. $8.98/6. MGM Wine & Spirits, 1580 Woodlane Drive; 651.739.4110; a-toast-to-you.com

2. Tyranena Brewing Co. “Rocky’s Revenge” Bourbon Barrel Brown Ale Aged in barrels that formerly held bourbon, this beer boasts a rich, malty flavor. It’s one of Abrahamson’s favorites, and he says a quality burger or sausage to go along with this ale will satisfy any hungry appetite. $9.99/6. Top Ten Wine and Spirits, 9887 Norma Lane; 651.501.1199; toptenliquors.com

3. Bent Paddle 14 Degree ESB This beer features two prominent flavors: cocoa and peach. While they seem opposed, the two flavors meld to create something like pure bliss. One of the few English special bitter beers available in the area, this beverage is a treat. $10.99/6. The Four Firkins, 8338 3rd St. N., Oakdale; thefourfirkins.com

4. Indeed Day Tripper Pale Ale Brewed in Minneapolis, this beer balances bitterness with citrus refreshment. Perfect for one more fall cookout: fire up the grill and pair this drink with grilled chicken or steak. $7.98/6. MGM Wine & Spirits

5. Steel Toe Provider The ideal beer for those new to the craft scene, this beer is flavorful without overwhelming any newcomers. With a weightier mouth-feel than most other golden ales, this beverage provides a satisfying drinking experience. $4.49. The Four Firkins
