Back in India, Srilekha Senthil started taking photos while in college; she has a strong interest in the arts, doing all types of painting, clay modeling and paper quilling earrings as well as folk dance choreography. She has lived in Woodbury with her family for the past three years.
“I took this photo of my daughter Akshara, who’s 6 years old, at my home,” Senthil says. “It was taken for one of our Indian festivals, Diwali. Her costume is traditional North Indian wear, called ghagra choli, which usually comes in bright colors.”
This photo placed third in the People & Families category in Woodbury Magazine’s 2014 Focus on Woodbury photo contest.
