Flowers and other plants are an important—if not entirely intuitive—part of a lot of décor that pops up around the holidays. Lauren Mathis, marketing and communications manager of Woodbury’s Woodlane Flowers, shares some tips to prepare and care for your winter floral creations.

“Most people think that holiday/winter arrangements need to be green and red, but white flowers arranged with winter greens make for an elegant winter arrangement,” Mathis says.

Woodbury’s splash pad, which opened last summer at HealthEast Sports Center, has proven to be a popular place for kids. It’s also a popular place for a photo opportunity as shown by this image of identical twins Kai and Keanu, taken by their mother, Youngmi Kim. “The boys were having a blast at the splash pad, totally fascinated by the water,” Kim says. “It’s very hard to capture both boys in the same picture as they tend to move around constantly. You never know what will pop up in the garden. Just ask Sarah Kroening. “While harvesting tomatoes last August, I noticed a small speck of what appeared to be dirt on one of the tomatoes,” Kroening says. “Upon further inspection, I noticed the perfect swirl of a snail shell. Christine Quirk, 22, has lived in Woodbury her entire life with one exception: She went away to New York for college, then moved back to town in May 2016. This fun photo was taken in her family’s pool last summer. “I love making bubble rings underwater and thought how cool it would look in a picture,” Quirk says. “I gave it a try and the result was amazing.” Read more about Focus on Woodbury: Fishy Face

“Can you believe I used my old Samsung Galaxy S III cell phone to capture this photo?” says Cheryl Singer. “I saw this gorgeous rainbow and decided to stop and take a photo with my cell phone. Last summer, Mandi Folks and her family attended the Carver Lake Camp Out, organized annually by the city of Woodbury Parks and Recreation department. “Our family loves Minnesota summers; we try to spend as much time outdoors as possible,” Folks says. “Our children enjoyed the camp out’s scavenger hunts and games, s’mores and playing at the beach. I had brought my camera along and when I noticed one family’s dog (Lola) reaching down for a drink in the lake, I thought it would make a beautiful image with the ripples in the background.” Read more about Focus on Woodbury: Thirsty Pup at Carver Lake

“I am always taking photos,” says Gina Osowski. “Last spring, I was watching these mourning doves as I was sitting at the kitchen table. The doves show up every spring. Yep, I’m a bird watcher; they are interesting creatures!” Read more about Focus on Woodbury: Love Doves
