Valley Creek Red Barn

Shannon Rode captured this photo after a hoar frost blanketed Woodbury.

Many of us have noticed this quaint red barn on the northwest corner of Valley Creek Road and Manning Avenue, a nod to Woodbury’s farming heritage. “I’ve seen it many times while driving down Valley Creek Road and always wanted to photograph it,” Shannon Rode says. “Last February, on a perfect photo day, the hoar frost made the red of the barn pop against the white snow.”

Rode lives in Woodbury with her husband and two sons, and works at Henseler Orthodontics. “My favorite subjects to photograph are nature, my son’s baseball team and my family and friends,” she says. “I’ve always enjoyed taking photos, but when I bought a Panasonic Lumix point-and-shoot camera a few years ago, I was hooked. I upgraded my camera (a Nikon D5100 with an AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300 mm lens was used for this photo) and bring it with me when I walk the trails of Woodbury. I enjoy capturing the beauty of our city.”
