Woodbury Community Theatre presents The Importance of Being Earnest”

Woodbury Community Theatre presents The Importance of Being Earnest.

Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest is one of the most widely performed plays in the country. Why? The theme—fibbing out of fear of disapproval—is relatable enough; when it’s propelled by dialogue full of clever banter and hidden quips, the script becomes a subtlety forceful masterpiece.

Woodbury Community Theatre will deviate from its usual musical lineup to perform the famed play this April. Director Cyndi Sturtz praises the Black Box Theatre as a perfect setting in its intimacy and simplicity. “Keeping the set and costumes simple is important for this play,” Sturtz says. “Eliminating some visual distractions allows people to focus...the words really tell the story.”

Performances will take place at the Black Box Theatre at East Ridge High School, April 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 7 p.m., and April 12 and 19 at 2 p.m. Visit woodburycommunitytheatre.org for tickets and more information.
