After going their separate ways, a handful of players from the Woodbury area are expanding their hockey careers.
Now attending Mankato State University, Max Gaede graduated from Woodbury High School (WHS) in 2010. A third round draft pick for the San Jose Sharks, Gaede plays not only for his collegiate team, but practices with the Sharks as well. “I am looking forward to a really good year,” Gaede says. “I am excited to graduate and see what the next step is in my career.”
Former Hill-Murray student Jake Guentzel accepted a scholarship from the University of Nebraska-Omaha after his 2012 graduation. The Pittsburgh Penguins claimed him in the draft. “You have to be ready every game; you can’t take nights off,” Guentzel says. “Use the tools you have to be successful.”
Other former WHS players to keep an eye on include David Eddy, 2008 graduate and player for the Utah Grizzlies in the ECHL, part of the Calgary Flames organization, 2010 graduate and Army player Jonathan Gehrt, and 2010 graduate and Michigan Tech player Walker Hyland. And also of note, two local women are playing Division 1 hockey: 2010 Hill-Murray graduate Maggie Pendleton of the Providence College Friars, and 2010 WHS graduate Kari Lundberg of the Mankato State University Mavericks. Both are serving as captains this season.
