In the August issue we're shining the spotlight on local high school seniors with our annual Prep Elite feature.

A common drive-by turned into a beautiful photo opportunity for 42-year Woodbury resident Karen Bradley. “I drive by there all the time, and it is such a peaceful place. I wanted to capture that,” Bradley says, talking about her photo taken at the Heritage House in Woodbury.

 

Since it opened three years ago, Woodbury’s Tamarack Tap Room has built a strong foundation on premium hamburgers, craft beer and fine bourbon.

 

A fun, unique summer pastime for children and families is closing out the season this month. Woodbury’s Puppet Wagon will offer its last shows of the summer August 13 through 16 with its final show of the season at Colby Park.

 

Laura Funk of Lakeland has been attending classes at Jazzercise Woodbury almost since it opened. “I joined with a friend of mine who wanted to get in shape after having a baby,” she says.

 

Between sports, clubs, jobs, volunteering—and, of course, schoolwork—teenagers seem to be busier than ever these days.

Sara Lein never dreamed of riding on the back of a motorcycle on a Caribbean island, running a school in a foreign country, or helping find homes for three special kids—but she feels honored to say this is all now part of her journey.

 

Beer-lovers, rejoice! Woodbury will finally get its own brewing company and taproom as 3rd Act Brewery opens this fall. For Deb and Steve Long, opening the brewery has been long in the making. Steve has been brewing his own beer since the 1980s.

 

The oral surgeons at Woodbury’s True North Oral Surgery & Implants share their tips for a (relatively) peaceful and non-scary wisdom teeth removal experience.

 

After a long and intense season, the Woodbury High School competitive cheer team took first place at the national championship at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida back in February. “It was really exciting to see how thrilled they were,” says coach Andria Mattlin.

 

After winning the Lake Superior Regional FIRST Robotics Competition, the 3M Fighting Calculators high school robotics team, along with their allied teams from New London and Frazee, qualified for the World Competition in April.

 

The most common reaction I get when asking friends about Riesling is: “Riesling is too sweet!” Sure, Riesling wines can be sweet, but quite often they’re far from it. Dry Rieslings are some of the most popular food-friendly wines available.

 

Enjoying a walk through the woods with her camera, Woodbury resident Thanna Goff had been looking forward to taking some early spring shots around Carver Lake. “I saw something in the tree, so I snuck up on it slowly so it wouldn’t fly away,” Goff says.
